Phil Dirt's Reverb Central - This is a splendid release. Surf Report has matured in many areas, with fine writing and playing,
and more developed arrangements. This just may topple "Naugahyde" as my fave track from this
San Diego band.
The Magazine for Instrumental Rock Music (England) - "Delicious, hard-driving guitar CD from one of our
favourite bands here at NGD. Rick and the boys twang up action all
the way through this set, with a little bit of Dick Dale, Davie Allan, Link, and The Ventures
but thankfully, lots of Surf Report. Don't skip the end either - The Trooper is simply the best.
Really hard stuff. A modern classic - Loved it! ****"
(Germany) - "One of the most interesting new instrumental surf bands are
Surf Report from San Diego. The energy level is one of the highest in this field - parallels The Surfaholics'.
If you like your music new, but still powerful, emotional codas, etc., buy this. After all, bands like
this are not very common."
(England) - "Ten uptempo reverb surfers adorn this new CD from Surf Report. They're all
original too, apart from The Trooper. With two guitars, bass and drums working overtime, it's
a frantic high-impact set. The twin lead guitar work is ably supported by sympathetic bass and nifty
drumming, but all this would be pointless without quality material and varied arrangements. This is
where Surf Report really score. One of the 10 best releases of 1996! In a word, stunning."
San Diego Reader
- "You might say San Diego's Surf Report is carving it's own lines by putting the "surf" back into
"surf music..." classic surf instrumental music: rolling tom drums and double-picked, minor key guitar
solos drenched in wet-sounding reverb. Nothing that would disturb
Dick Dale. ...Surf instrumental music... played at a snappy tempo, as Surf Report plays it, can be as
exhilarating as anything in rock and roll."
Surf Music USA - "This hot new surf/instro group from
San Diego is ready to take it's place among the best. The music is first rate and will please traditional
surf and non surf instro lovers."
Exotica and Boxing Magazine
(Vermont) - "The 11 songs on this disc are all kept exciting
by lots of energy, reverb, and solos. This is the perfect CD for someone who likes Dick Dale, but wants to
hear a band that doesn't sound like his clone. They sound nothing like the Beach Boys!"
